PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr G. G. Stead leaves for Wellington to-day. Mr W. H. Gundry left by tie Rotomahana last night for Wellington, where he will preside at a council meeting to-day of the Institute of Accountants.
Among the passengers who arrived in Clmstchuroh by th« express last night were: —Mr and Mrs S. Mackenzie, from Timaru; Mr and Mrs H- B. Pascoe, Mr Haliey and Mr D. Todd, from Dunedin; and Mr John Holmes, from Methven.
The Rev. and Mrs Beaven, Mr T. A. Phillips, Mr T. Chapman (of Mount Palm), Air G. D. Greenwood (of Teviotdak), and Mr James Burnett are at present in Christchurch. •
Mr and Mrs Hy. Thomson have returned from Australia. Hia friends will be pleased to karn that Mr Thomson's health has much benefited by the trip. Mr J. M. Geddis, of the "Hansard" staff, who recently underwent a severe operation, is now convalescent.
At the meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council on Monday evening, O. Cook, who, witih Mrs Cook and his unmarried daughters, is about to visit Europe, was granted leave of absence. The Mayor and Councillors tpoke eulogistioally of Cγ. Cook's work for the Port, and passed a vote of thanks to him for hie services. , The following are the recent visitors to Hammer:—At _ the Spa.—Miss CH. Tor-' lesse (Rangiora), Miss G. G. Hadwen (Christchurch), Mks P. E. Wood (Wellington), Mias J. Shelton (Chrietohurch), Mr and Mrs Schumacher and Miss M." Schumacher (Lyttelton), Mr J. Yates (Sydenham). At Amuri Grange—Mr Anderson (Chratohureh), Mr King, Mr Vincent (Oxford), Mr Rogers (Chrietchurch), Misses Davidson (2), Mr and Mrs Stace, Mr and Mrs Wilkie, Miss and Master Wilkie. At Langley Villa—Mr and Mrs W. Taylor (Tβmuka). At Windsor House—Miss Bolton (Kirw«e), Mr and Mrs Wilkie.
