ARTILLERY VERSUS BALLOON
A series of experiments have been conducted at the artillery ranges at Steinfeld, Vienna, to ascertain the chances of a balioon in mid-air being h\t by ordinary artillery. A captive balloon was sent up as a target, for four guns, the officerg in charge having to judge for themselves it* height and distance away. Twenty-two rounds were tired, and it was found that the altitude had been underestimated greatly. It was not till the sixty-fourth attempt that the silt was pierced, and the balloon brought to the ground.
