THE NORTH-EAST VALLEY TRAGEDY.
RESULT OF THE INQUEST.
(SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.")
DUNEDIN, January 20. The enquirj into the North-Eaet Valleytragedy to-day ■elicited the sad facts that the woman had shown suicidal tendencies, and was being watched by a nurse, who left three days ago, Mrs Mayhead saying thait she was ill right again. She was suffering from religious mania, and had liallucinations about some catastrophe happening to her. fc>he was of a aneek and gentle disposition, and was very fcstid of her husband and children. She was very kind and affectionate, and had a cheerful home. She at no time threatened the life of the boy, and previous to the tragedy appeared quite roitionall.
The jury returned a verdict of tnunler and suicide while temporarily insane. The Coroner remarked that it wae hard to ma the word murder, fbut the eting wae titkva away by the fact that tlhe woman was not responsible for her actions.
