PANTOMIME AT THE OPERA HOUSE
A large audience at the Opera House last night witnessed the opening prodluction in this «ity by Dixs Gaiety Company of the pantomime, "Dick Whittington and His Cat." Thea>i«ce as a whole went well, and the staging .was txcellent. The scene on the ship "Diamond Jubilee," anii especially the eet depicting the peror of Morocco's pailaoe, -were very lis.'" feotive. Very good aleo wae the etaftie ballet, arranged by Mies Ethel OMaiMi'. Th* curtain rose on a group of girls poeed on pedestak, who went through graoeiEfJ movements to appropriate music, and depicted the arts in mimicry. . Vancm* coloured lights heightened the .effect, a«kt at the conclusion the balkt was entiiusiaetically applauded. As the hero, Dick Wliittington, Miss Sadie Casino appeared: to advantage, whilst Miss Olive Lenton, ac Alice, wae well cast. Her «ong, ' u iae Mniden the Dreamy Eyes," was encored, and Miss Lenton responded with a combination of dances, introducing thje. Highland fling, Irish jig, and the liarflpipe. Mr Frank M. Clark contributed" nwwji :: of the fun of the piece as " Idle Jack." and •was ably seconded by Mr George Bentley as Captain Seabreeze, and Mr Dick Caeino ac the boatswain. Mr Fitta wae good in the dual part of King Bat and Emperor of Morocco, whilst Little Casino as the O?*, acted the part to the life, and kept the audhenos amused witib hie antics. The Sistere Smith were successful in their vocal items and dancing. Ilie performance concluded- with a harlequinade, in which Little Casino, Mr Dick Casino, Air George Bentley, and Misses Ethel Clifford and Jessie Thome took part. "Dick Whittingtoa and His Cat" will be repeated this evening.
