WELLINGTON TRAINING NOTES.
(SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, January 17. Visiting horses for the coming meeting of the Wetiicgton Racing 'Club are arriving daily, and work at the Hutt in the early morning i» becoming more interesting. A fair amount of galloping was indulged in this morning, the tracks being in good order, especially tho tan, but the morning wa a du-i, with a light breeze. F. Higgot was out -with Benefactor and Shrapnel Shell at about i.A>, before the touts hart put in an appearance. Benefactor was seen finishing in front of Shrapnel Shell, and it was thought they had negotiated a rtrond. E. Cutta sent Cartnie Chiel, who ia muscular and well, a round at three-quarter pace, and allotted light tasks to Treaomill. Soincrlcd, and Windwhist.e. Treadmill created a favourable impression. Hmetaura, looking as fit ac the proverbial fiddle, cantered once round, and then galloped* round on the oulsido. She was picked up badjy by Gold Seal at the five furlong post, but the latter never got up to his stable mate, who finished a couple of lengths to the good. Hmetaura bounded along in fine style, and took lmin 35iaec to come from tho seven furlong post. Hatley, who haa come on a deal of late, had no difiscuity in beating Mauserine over, six furlongs on the outside, which took lmin 2Seec Yvaipai gave iniwa a drubbing over the same course in lmin 24§sec. Orloff and King Log were associated in a four luriong iiuuer on toe grass. Orloff was on tiie insiae, and took things comfortably, and had the bsst of tho gai.op. Tne time was 52sec. King bog ran on tho extreme outside ail the way. rs. o jn hoT3Cs are in capital fettle. Kingman finished a couple of lengths in front of Jlatuku, but the latter appeared to be having tne best of the gallop until well into tne straight. The time irom the sue fur.ong post was lmin 22Jscc. Gypsy Jack held Aidc-de-Camp eaie over seven furlongs on tne grass in lmin 40sec. Siege Gun and Crucilorm gaiioped a mile on the tan. They carried about even weights, and biege Gun was driven along from the start, while Cruciform was allowed to run along behind comfortably. They finished together, but Cruciform had a lot in hand. The mile was left behind in lmin 453 ec, and the last seven furlonga in lmin 32.vec. Cruciform is in great he-art. Siege Gun is showing slight signs ot soreness, lie, however, moved more tree.y than he did yesterday morning. Canteen, looking remarkably well, was sent a mile on the Us with Rickerby in the saddle. Ayrdalo picked him up between the five and sis furlong posts, but did not get on terms with the grey horse, who ran home under a pull in lmin 4esec. His gallop was a very lm--pressive one. Palias and Petrovna jumped off on the outside behmd the five furlong post, Pallas ho.ding his companion very safe in lmin 5 2-sth sec. Pure Silver and Aldinga were together over a similar course, their time being lmin 9sec. Cumulus and Tho Guesser were about a match oyer seven furlongs on the outside, the time being lmin £6sec. Motor, looking very fit, ran a mi.c on the tan in lmin 48sec. but took it easy along the back. Meld iSattery, also looking well, picked him up along the back, and beat his sUiblo mate home. Wind ; finished just in front of Matipo over four furlongs on the tan in 53sec. Melwood, who is picking up. galloped seven furlongs on the tan, the last six occupying lmin 2Csec. Waikakaho, who has improved very much in appearance, covered seven furlongs at three-quarter pace. Okoari ig considered an unlikely starter ot the meeting, and 'i'o-morrow and Golden Vein will be absentees.
