GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL

Tho Geraldine County Council met on Thursday. Present—Messrs G. J. Dennistoun (in the chair), A. Kelman, B. R. Macdonald, Wright,' Metcalf, and Dixon. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. Talbot. At the wish of ratepayers interested 'Messrs Macdonald and Kelman wt!re appointed to meet the engineer at the Opuha Crorge Bridge and report on same. It was resolved to withdraw from fixed deposit money standing to the credit of the Orari-Waihi water race district, and utilise same for the Rangitata-Orari district, the Orari-Waihi district to be credited with the amount. The Geraldine Eoad Board wrote that they were unable to contribute out of the Board's funds towards the erection of a traffic bridge at Peckham's crossing, but would be pleased to transfer the Government grant of £200 for the purpose. The matter was allowed to stand over. The same Board wrote asking what the Council's intention was with regard to the erection of a traffic bridge over the Hae-te-Moana river. As sooon as the question of site is settled the Council will be prepared to do something. Meanwhile the Government will be asked to renew the grant.
