Mr Gray's reply is as under: — "I am in receipt of your favour of tiie 12th inst., and in reply beg to submit the following answers to the list of questions you have forwarded to me: 1. Recognising the necessity that exists for preserving the continuity of the tram ss-rvict*. I am ot opinion that the Board will liave to make some arrangements with the exiting companies with the view of conserving the convenience of the public. All the" concessions expiring on tin- 24th September, 19W, will have run their course long before xlic Hoard can hope to have the new system installed, and uniess the Board is prepared to purchase the ntcissary plant in oidt-r to keep the trams running, serious inconvenience is likely to r>e caused to tiie thousands of people who ia?e the trams.
