CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES.
For the third of this season's series of local wool • sales yesterday there was a record entry of 19,530 bales, and there was a large attendance of Home- and colonial buyers. ±ne bulk of the wool was excellent, being unusually free from earth, but fairly heavy in grease. Included in the catalogues, were a number of best station clips of merino and halfbrod, and some good crossbred clips from the peninsula. There was brisk competition for all good wool, and prioeg for merino and crossbreds were firmer, while fine halfbreds appeared to be slightly easier as compared with the previous' sale. The outside buyers bid freely for any good lots ot pieces, and local wool scourers were unatole to secure any large quantity. There was good competition between the Home buyers and representatives of the local woollen mills for merino. The proportion of wool passed in was not large, and evidently the prices offered were well up to the reserves. TBie range of values was ac follows: — Super merino to 12|d, medium B£d to lOd, super Kalfbred B£d to 9Jd, medium. 7d to B|d, inferior ofd to 6Jd, best crossbred 6d to ?|d, medium 5d to 5Jd, longwool 4|d to c s|d, merino pieces 7d to 9£d, beet halfbred pieces o£d to 7id, medium 4Jd to 6d, crossbred pieces 3Jd tto s±d, locks 2d to 4±d. The whole of the large lots of wool catalogued were got through by half-past ten in the evening, and the star lots will be sold this morning, commencing at nine o'clock. The system of allowing the selling broker to start, the price of each lot will be adopted.
