The addition of the unofficial members to the Legislative Council of Orangi* i fl preliminary to establishing an elective Council. The Hon. Sir W. F. Hely-Hutchineon, Governor of the Cape, nieete Mr Chamberlain at Maieking, and accompanies him to the Caps. (Received January 16th. 10.17 p.m.) CAPETOWN, January 16. Replying to a deputation,-Mr Chamberlain regretted that the animosity delayed towards the National Scouts \v;>a being continued, and promised them Uo.t■: anion t protection.
Mr Chamberlain leaves Blocntfurrieiu un February 9th ; and visits Cirahuiustown, Port Elizabeth, Grao.f Reinst. and Paarl, reaching Capetown on the 17th. (Received January 16th, 11.20 p.m.) LONDON, January 16. The '"Daily Mail's" Johannesburg correspondent states that the Orange Calony's war contribution will be five millions, with a public works loan of a similar amount.
