NEW ZEALAND'S OFFER TO AUSTRALIA.
STATEMENT BY MR SEDDON. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 15. The Premier has sent a communication to the Press Association with regard to yesterday's cable message from Melbourne, giving the substance of Mr Irvine's remarks when stating that be had beard nothing further of New Zealand's offer to supply seed wheat, etc. Mr Seddon saythat from the nature of the replies received to the New Zealand Government's offer, which were tantamount to saying that the aasiatance offered was no longer required, m& from the fact that rains have fallen in abundance, no action was taken by the -New 2iealand Government. The latter had been prepared, and is prepared now, to rail seeds and fodder to the seaboard, and pay the freights to Australia. It was the altered conditions and the fact that no help was required, and the replies received from tbe State Premiers which prevented the movement here taking active steps. Mr Seddon quotes the replies he received. These, while expressing thanks for the proffered assistance, do not encourage the mov«meat being proceeded with.
