Thirty degrees of frost have been registered in Scotland, and the weather is very severe in Great Britain and on the Continent. NEW YORK, January 14. The coal famine in tlie United States, combined with the bittei'.y cold weather, is causing much suffering amongst all classes. Seven people were frozen to death in Chicago.

The Ways and Means Committee of both Houses has reported in favour of granting a rebate equal to the duty on imparted cool for the year.
