The Union Bank has declared a dividend of 8 per cent.; £50,000 has been added to the reserve, and £20,000 has been carried forward. A NEW USE FOR MARCONIGRAMS. M. Marconi has promised to assist the Meteorological Bureau with information about barometric pressures, supplied from ships crossing tho Atlantic. FEDERAL SUPPLY AND COLD STORAGE COMPANY. The prospectus of the Federal Supply and Cold Storage Company has been withdrawn, owing to a dispute between the promoters. A POWERFUL WARSHIP. The Chilian battleship Oonstitucian, whioh has been launched at Elswick, carries the most powerful guns in the world, and is built to steam at a record speed. THE PENALTY OF DUELLING. BERLIN, January 14. Judge Guggenheimer, of Munich, and L. Steu'b, the Belgian Consul in the same city, have been sentenced w four and two months' imprisonment, respectively, for duelling. The quarrel arose over Guggenheimer's misconduct with Steub's wife. THE RUSSIAN BUDGET. ST. PETERSBURG, January 14. The Budget shows that the revenue amounts to two hundred millions sterling, with a small surplus. Large additional provision is made for the army and navy and for railway extension. THE ROUTE TO MECCA. CONSTANTINOPLE, January 14. The Porte forbade the shorter route of the Egyptian pilgrims to Mecca- The Khedive telegraphed in reply that Egypt has her rights, and will adhere to the shorter route. THE POLAR QUEST. Freiherr yon Rheimbaben, Minister of Finance, speaking in the Prussian Diet, described American competition as a dark cloud, on Germany's economic horizon. AN INFLAMMATORY SPEECH. BELGRADE, January 15. King Alexander, in a speech at a banquet at Belgrade, urged Servians to be prepared for the decisive moment. "The whole world must know," lie said, "that no one obtains a foot's breadth of the Balkans without Servia getting her share."
