A first offender, who was charged with drunkenness at New Brighton, on January 14th, and who diet not appear, was fined 10s and costs, or 48 hours' rmpr_vonn_cnt. William Frederick Naylor, who admitted having been drunk at Armagh street, Christchurch, on the same date, had been twice previously convicted within the past six months. Tne Bench inflicted a fine of £5, with the alternative of 14 days' imprisonment, remarking that in a case where there had been three convictions within six months it was justified in inflicting the full penalty.
Henry Fraser Marshall, a boy, appeared to answer a charge of having, at Christchurch, on January 14th, 1903, stolen one silver lever hunting watch, the property of James Moore. Chief Detective Chrystall said the accused had only been arrested the previous night, and other charges would probably be brought forward against him. He applied for a remand for one week, which was granted.
