TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS.
Sir, —It strikes me very forcibly that your correspondents, "An Old Bachelor," and "Woman's Friend," aro very' narrowminded and sadly in want of something to find fault with. I think the women of Christchurch are, in the majority of cases to be commended for the very excellent taste displayed in their dress. True, there are exceptions, but why should women as a whole be adversely criticised and condemned because of the few? "Woman's Friend" says he thinks the subject of this discussion a trifling one. He is very courteous certainly, first he thinks of all the hard things possible, and then concludes that the matter is of no importance. His foind, so he says, lias been broadened by years of travel and of strivings in his mind. Surely his travels must have taken him to someplace where women existed not, if, on his return to Christchurch, he can find time to quarrel with the manner in which our women dress.
If be finds that he cannot walk our streets nnd preserve his equanimity, I would respectfully suggest that he should pay a visit to one of the Australian capitals, then perhaps he will be content to come back and refrain from passing insulting remarks about the wives and sisteis of the Cathedral City. In conclusion. I would remind both "An Old Bachelor" and " Woman's Friend " that " to the pure all things are pure." —Youre. etC '* A MERE MAN.
