The Westrelia arrived frooi Dunedin at 7.10 a.m. yesterday, and left for Sydney via Auckland "at 5.40 p.m. ~, The Tp.rawera arrived from Wellington at 8 a.m. yesterday, and left for Wellington at 9.30 p.m. The Maori, after picking up her anchor in the stream on Tuesday, left for Wellington late on Tuesday night. The Mimiro, from London, is duo at Melbourne on the 18th inst., and at Sydney about a week later. She continues her voyage New Zealandwards about the 30th inst.
The Sussex left for Wanganui at 12.10 p.m. yesterday. The Sealda, from Calcutta, ;a expected here to-day. Tho Upolu arrived from Akaroa, etc., at 10.40 am. yesterday, and left f.:r New Plymouth, at 2.45 p.m. The Te Anau nrrived from Auckland, via the east coast yesterday, and left for Duccdin fct 4 p.m. The returns of the total amount of coal exported from Newcastle last year show a decrease of 137,571 tons compared with the figures for the preceding year. The money loss waa £43,167. It must be remembered, however, that 1901 and 1900 were phenomenal years owing to the South African war, and though the total amount exported last year was less than 1901, it was greater than any other year excepting 1900, being only 55,148 tons beiow that period. Taking, therefore, normal yeaTs, the amount exported last year shows a steady aud substantial increase. The chief decrease last year was in the interState trade. There was a> slight increase in the West Coast trade, and very satisfactory development with. Eastern countries. During the six month 3 ended September 30th last, tho steamers oi the Union line employed in the Taemanian trade consumed 216,9 CUb meat, 19.431 loaves of bread (41b each), 16,129 ib butter, 4071 dozen <?gge, 5442 gallons milk, 93,5791b ice, 1318 bags potatoes, £319 worth of butcher's small goods,, £570 vegetables, £485 fruit, £421 fish, £284 poultry. £1542 groceries. The total expenditure was £9,509. The Wellington "Post" of Tuesday eaya tho Government steamer Tutanckai arrived at O4ymouth. that morning from the West Coast Soui.ds. Captain Post has advised the Marine Department that bad weather was experienced throughout the trip, end great difficulty arose in landing the prorieions, etc. The Tutaaekai will return to Wellington after vieiting,Westport and cue or two other coastal ports. The Cygnet arrived from Akaroa last evening. ■ . . The Papanui leaves for Wellington to-day The Waiwera left Capetowa for Wellington on Monday.
