CAPETOWN, January 14.
Mr Chamberlain's discussion with tie leading citizens of Johannesburg resulted in an agreement for an Imperial guaranteed public works loan of -usirty millions. The war contribution is to be fixed at thirty millions. An understanding was also reached on the labour question. LONDON, January 14. "The Times" heartily congratulates Mr Chamberlain on arranging a voluntary war contribution by the Transvaal. The ' cLandkrd says if the settlement is somewhat indulgent to the Rand, yet it will in the long run prove advantageous to the highest Imperial interests in South Africa. The Rand has shown its wisdom and patriotism in the matter.
