Smith, curator of the Ashburton Domain, forwarding certain weeds whidb he had received from & farmer in the Hinds district. The members examined the ptante, which had enormous roots, and must be extremely detrimental to the land on which they grow. Mr Smith attached labels to them, and explained their manner of growth. At a meeting of pomhioneta of the Longoeaoh parochial district, Ibeld on Tuesday afternoon, it was decided to'approve the proposed alteration of boundaries by the severance of the Tinwald town district and iboluding it in the Aahburton parish. A motion by Mr John StoudiboCme, jun., was carried to this effect, sad bhe question of residence of the vicar was left over for the present. At a special meeting of members of the Ashburton A. and P. Association, held on Tuesday afternoon, a motion was passed that the financial year da* not later ttoan 26th of February, and that the annual meeting be not held later than the firet week in April in each year. A letter was read from the Minister of Railways re the size of grain sacks. After a brief discussion, the letter was received, no action, be* ing taken at present. The third wool sale of this season's series wiU be held at the Canterbury Hall tomorrow, when 19,330 bales and 63 bags, comprised in 6057 lote, will be offered. The Eyreton Road Board is proceeding with'tiie Eyre protective works, to prevent a repetition of the damage done by the floods- of March last. Some of tibe expenditure was undertaken before authority was given for the subsidy from the Parliamentary grant of £1000. There has been a difference of opinion between the Board and the Lands Department for some time, but Mr Buddo has obtained an assurance from the Minister of Lands that the subsidy of £ for £ will be paid on the 'work already finished. There was again, a heavy flood in the Waimakarirj yesterday, and the supply of water was sufficient to fill the water-racee, which for some time have been short of wetter. Intimation of the heavy rain on the back ranges from tibe B&aley was received, but up to the present, owing to there being no .proper gauge in the river, information was not obtainable beforehand as to toe probable height of the flood. It is said th>e Railway Department ihas a water gauge at Waimakariri Gorge bridge, aod from this source reliable intimation could be obtained about four hours before the flood reached White's Bridge. At the special meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College yesterday, the following recommendation of the Museum and Library Oommitoee was agreed to:—"That tae Board of Governors offer to the Board of Education a rebate of 25 per cent, on the fee of ten shillings per student on the teachers attending the School of Art in brushwork, model, and backboard, and that the Chairman be authorised to arrange the matter wiA the Board of ivduoation." In proposing the adoption of the report, the Chairman (Mr Arthur E. G. Kfaodes) said that further correspondence on the subject had been received from the Board of Education, and that the Committee had Mr Elliott, the beadmaeter of the School of Art, before them, and from hk statements they had come to the conclusion Hoi the reduction stated could be made. At tbe Magistrate's Court at Timaru yesterday a case of some interest to farmers Vod commercial men was heard. Mr S. C. Brown, of Auckland, purchased 1500 bushels \of wiieat from Mr J. Half the amount was, sent to Mr Brown, who accepted it, on protest, es-ymg that it was not according to sample, and he directed that the second -half shoild oat be seat him.
