NOTABLE PLAY-MOUNTING IN NEW YORK.
A wonderful Japanese drama by Messrs Belaeoo and Long, entitled "The Darling of the Gods," was produced at Belasco's Theatre, New York, recently. One correspondent states that it is the most gorgeous stage spectacle ever witnessed in America. There are ten scenes magnificent It mounted and full of dazzling effects. The "play is founded on a tragic love story of old Japan. And the leading role is filled by Miss Blanche Bates. It is accompanied by weird incidental music, in ■which antique Japanese instrumente largely figure. Kealism is further enhanced by the burning of incense, which disseminates drowsy odours throughout the theatre. The critics pronounce the production marvellous, and confess themselves unable to find language to adequately describe the performance, in which nearly all the senses are successfully appealed to.
