The Education Board, having decided to admit a limited number of matrioulated students for a two years' course of training, applications from qualified candidates j will be received not. later than the 22nd inst. t A meeting of l cricket umpires, convened by the Canterbury Cricket Association, will j be held on Thursday night, to consider the formation of an Umpires' Association. The Canterbury Horticultural Society's garden fete, jwstponed from last Thursday, will be held next Thursday, on the grounds of Captain R. Heaton Rhodes, M.H.R., "Elmwood," Papanui road. The Elite Brass Band, under Bandmaster Duggan, will play, on Friday evening, on the bank of the river near the Christchurch Amateur Boathonse. A collection r will be made in aid of the New Zealand ' Representative Band Uniform Fund. ] The Mayor (Mr H. F. Wigram) will to-night draw the prizes in connection ( with the Pioneer Amateur Athletic and Bicycle Club's art union. The drawing ] will, take place at the club's rooms in . Cathedral square, at eight; o'clock. The ' proceeds of the art union are to assist ] the funds for the club's ne-sv rooms, now in course of erection, at the corner of 3 Gloucester street and Oxford terrace. t The first annual dinner to commemorate the departure of the Sixth N.Z.
