NORTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) PALMERSTON NORTH, January 12. The first tournament of the North Island Bowling Association M commenced on the local screens to-day. The entries from twenty-six Clubs constitute a record. The weather was fine, but windy, up to well on in the afternoon, when heavy rain eet in and stopped play. During the second round Mr D. Nathan, president oi the Association, declared the tournament open- The Hon- J. CarroJl was amongst DtoW present. The following are the results: — First round —Wan<-anui 23 v Dannevirke 17, Masterton 24 v Pahiatua 14, Stratford 21 v Wellington 18, Palmerston 22 v PortBonby 18. Victoria 20 v New Plymouth 19, Newmarket 36 v Petone 13. Huwera 17 v Patea 15, Auckland 33 v Thmndon 19, Newtown 33 v Upper Plains 11. Several teams arrived too late to take part in the play. At a large and enthusiastic meeting of bowlers this evening, .several important recommendations to the Bowling Association -were decided upon. These were that the present system of holding inter-club tournaments every two years, and biennial tournamentk in intervening years, be continued, and it was inadv;aib!e to hold alternate tournament* in *-!>« South and North Islands; the cost, of tournaments tit be raided by a pro rata levy on all affiliated clubs, the contributing amouat to be fixed by the Association. That in future ell inter-club tournaments, including gingiva and jwjiiiw, W held alternately at Auckiacd and WeJlinjjton, tlie champion fours to take place in the smaller centre*.
