Of this amount ike Ao. 2 aictige, which is in very good ground, got S'Jox lodwt. The North Beach Company got 650« of amalgam. The dredge was on a much poorer run of wash th_n usual. The Cailagiian's Greek Company got 40oz sdwt for 200 hours' work. The Hrst sixty hours was occupied in cleaning silt from the face, ibe ground on Saturday looked particu'exiy good. 'i'ho VVatterson's Ahaura Company got 21oz 12dwt for 129 hours' work. The machine is working on what appears to be a uniform run of wash, which is likely to laat and improvo for some time to come. The Commissioner's Flat Company got 17oz ldwt for 90 hours' work. The dredge is working on solid and improving ground. The Leviathan Company got 17oz ' for the week. The run of waah is ogam making, and a few good returns may toe looked for. The Leviathan Freeholds Company got 13o« for four days' work. The dredge is shifting round in the hopes of getting on to better wash. The Stony and Mosquito Leads Company got lSoz lOiwt for 60 (hours' ' work. The machine is near eolid ground, and some big returns are expected. Tho No-Town Creek Company got 40oz for 65 hours' work. A good deal of silt was brought down from the side gully neaT the dredge during the holidays, which caused a dea' of (rcuble and loss of time.
The Mosquito Company's dredge, which was iato in completing repairs, ori:y got four days' work in, for S6oz. The Maori Gully Company'sdrpda-e is high and dry, and considerably strained. The company will go iftto liquidation, and sell the claim and dredge. (3FECIAI, TO "THE TRESS.") REBFTON, January ill. In this part of the district it has been raining almost incessantly, land as a result All the rivers are in flood. The weather at present has tho appearanoo of clearing, and it |b hoped that the dredges will resume work this week.
So far" the body of tho unfortur_ate man Freeman, drowned oft ono of the dredges in the Bullex, ha« not been recovered, and all hopes of recovering it have been given' up. The work of extinguishing tho burning ooaj seam at Waitehu has been proceeding during the last few weeks, and a large body of water has been poured into the mine. It is hoped that in a short time the fire will be overcome. i The Alpine Goidmining Company is calling tenders for sinking the main shaft 150 ft, and also driving the No, 10 level south a distance of 100 ft. The shareholders in this company deserve success, as they are prospecting energetically.
