T_e Bank of England returns published to-day show the stock of gold coin and bullion to be £28,799,000, the reserve percentage of reserve to liabilities 38.38. Notes in circulation £2y,188,000. Public deposits £10,131,000, other deposits- £41,070,000. ' Government securities £20,040,000, other securities £29,625,000. Three months' bills are discounted at 3£ per cent. Consols 93J. New South Wales 4 per cents. 109£, 3_ do 102, 6 do 93. South Australian 3 per cents. 93, New Zealand 3 per cents., 9S_; Queensland 3£ per cents., 103 i, 3 do 100. Other stocks are unchanged. Wheat—The English and American markets are tending downward, the Continental is firm. Cargoes are quiet; Californian, December shipments, 31s, January 30s 9d. Copper, spot, £52 17s 6d, three months £53 ss. Tin, spot, £124, three months £124 ss. Iron, 53s 9d. Lead, £11 Is 3d. Spelter, £19 18s 9d. Silver, Is 10id. Sugar, first marks 9s 3d, German 7s lid. The Bradford wool market is brisk; super sixties 25d, forty-sixes 13 Jd; other classes are unchanged. At me Antwerp sales buyers were very numerous, and bidding was animated. Of 1600 bales of La Plata offeired 1236 were sold. Merinos were 5, crossbreds 10 per cent, above the closing rates of the October sales. Butter is flat; Danish is unchanged, colonial 106s to 108s, and occasional lots 110s. Cheese is very; firm; Canadian 635. The Karamea's consignment arrived in excellent condition, and sold at 60s to 625. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltmited, ihave leceived the following cable message from their London Office, under date January Bth—"Frozen Meat.—Prices are nominally unchanged, excepting frozen beef, for which there is no demand."
