Mr W. G. T. Goodman arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and went south by the Woikare in the afternoon. Captain Chaplain Luxford left/ for Dunedin yesterday. 'Mr J. Murgatroyd, Mr A. M. Gow, Mr W. H. Clark, and Mr J. A. F-tenson arrived from the south by last night's express. Dr. Diamond and Mrs Diamond went south yesterday. Mr E. Herring, Mr H. Tennant (Glasgow), (Mr J. Allen and Miss Allen, Mr H. Graves and Mr H. M_r_wald arrived in town last evening. Mr and Mrs J. F. Wachsmann and family returned on Thursday evening from a visit to Hanmer and Mount Palm. Mr and Mrs Burke, Mr and Mrs L. Wilson, Mrs Goodwin, Mis_s_ Bings, and MH. Greendale, of C-rt-tchurch, wet, p_t» sengers to Hanmer yesterday. Mr J. R. Brunt returned to torn, from the North yesterday morning. Mr P. R.. Dix arrived from W»ll____» yesterday.
The Rev. Father Maoarthy, Rev. F__m* O'Donnell, and Mr H. G. Ell, MLH.R-. left fox Ashburton yesterday morning., Mr E. G. Kerr left for Timaru by th* express yesterday. Mr Nees, Mr Steel, Mr Sparrow, Mr Seeley, Mr Scott-Young, and Mr H. H. Norton arrived in town yesterday. The Rev. Mr Haynes arrived from the North yesterday morning.
Mr Th. do Schryver arrived in town yesterday morning. Mr W. J. Bolt was ia town yesterday, and went South by steamer ia the afternoon. The Rev. S. G. Fielding, for some time in charge of St. John's Church, I_ati__er square, and who, in April last, left for Australia, is at present exehanginsg with the Rev. Mr Johnston, of Nelson. Mr Fielding, who h_s been in ili-health, will remain in Nelson ior six weeks. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones returned to Dunedin from a visit to Centrai Otago last night. He leaves for the north today.
An Auckland telegram states, that the resignation of Archdeacon Govett. of Taranaki, has been received. Archdeacon Calder, Bishop's Ckiuimlssary of the Auckland diocese, has appointed the Rev. R. H. Cole, D.C.L , formerly Canon of Ber muda, to the v-c."- 1 - position.
