LAND BOARD.
The Canterbury Land Board met on Thursday. Present—Messrs T. Humpitries (Commissioner), A. C." Pringle, and J. Scaly. A number of applications for leases and licesses were granted, and Messrs Ambrose find Jackson were granted their application for the freehold title of their psrpetual lease of R.S. 36234 and 36235, Block 1., Waimate S.D. The rental of school reserve adjoining Lot 6, Lyndon No I. Settlement, was reduced, provided the lessee satisfactorily clears the gorse growing on the land. It was decided, after hearing the report on the matter, t» take no further action re damage done by fire on the Woodbank station, near Hanmer Springs. In consideration of'the repairs effected by A. Tweedie to Gore Bay cottage, after earthquake at Cheviot, it was decided to reduce the lessee's rental by £15 for the current year. Matthew Toohey was giranted a yearly tenancy over 50 acres of land on the sea beach north of the Kowai river, subject to conditions reserving rights of camping and picnicking in favour of the public. It was decided to notify lessees of Tamai Hamlet to clear their drains where necessary, in order to prevent tho flooding of parts" of the Hamlet, and also to draw the attention of the local body to the condition of the public drains. Reports were received from the Police Department on tho origin of bush fares at Oxford, but action was deferred pending -receipt of a report from the surveyor. Ke University Reserve No. 2012, Coldstream, near Hinds, the Commissioner of Crown Lands reported that the Governme.it had declined to approve of the proposed exchange of this reserve for other land, and it was decided to recommend that the reseive be'offered for public competition for >ase in two lots, for terms of fourteen years at upset rentals of 2s per acre per annum. The Mount Peel Road Board's application for the expenditure of Thirds and Fourths, in connection with the bridge over the Opuha river, was approved, subject to a public road to the bridge being localised ar.d constructed. Some of the Waimate County Council's proposals, regarding a similar application, were approved. It was decided to take immediate steps to recover amounts due by certain tenants on promissory notes.
