TAME PARADISE DUCKS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THK PRESS. Sir, —For many years I have had tame Paradise ducks at my place. Four-seasons they have bred and reared young ones. A few days ago a duck came off her nest with six young ones, such pretty little creatures ; theeame duck brought out cix last year, but only reared throe. This is now the third generation down ; altogether I have four pair and one odd duck, the lost-mentioned so tame it comes iv the house and feeds under my chair at meal times, and follows mc down the paddocks when ploughing. I can call it to mc and catch it anywhere; it .will stand on my shoulder or head, and not try to jump off. Never has its wings cut; can fly as well as any wild tluck. She is now sitting on tame ducks' nggs, as her own are no use, having no mate. Last year we put three hen e#ge under her, as well as three of her own ; she killed the chicks as soon as hatched. One of the other pair has now got a nest. Anyone is quite welcome to cotpo and see them, and they are well worth the seeing, but no dogs allowed near. —Yours, &c,
H. J. STONE. Woodend, October 20th, 1898.
