Captain • i Kennedy concludes his >repqrt £c follows :—'• While congratulating members on the satisfactory condition of affairs, and of the excellent work done by the Association, I wish to comment total lack of interest displayed by the various shipping companies throughout the colony towards the Association, which has since its. ;>nqeption been consistently working for, and has been instrumental in recommending the erection of additional ■ lighthouses and beacons, referred to in this and previous reports, thereby considerably reducing the dan- . gef to life and property on the New Zealand In view 6f these facts, I think that it would be a gracious act if some of the leading companies would show a little interest in, and encouragement towards, the Association, by .occasionally making a alight donation to the benevolent 1 fund."
