FIRES.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday a fire occurred which destroyed a small building in the Windmill road, owned by Mr J. D. Admens, and used by him as a bicycle repairing shop.' • In the shop vras an iron oven for drying enamel, and it is supposed that the heat irom it ignited the wood work near by, as the gas had been put out some time before the fire commenced. Mr Admens estimates his loss at about £30, and he Had no insurance on his plant. The Fire Brigade turned out in reply" to the alarm, but could do nothing in tne way of saving the building. A fire occurred in the Ferry road, at about 8 o'clock xra Friday night. A.small fourroomed cottage, owned by Mr Robt. McConnell and occupied by Mrs Hunter, was burnt down. The house was insured in the Standard Office for 3340, but there was no insurance on the furniture, which was destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown.
