ASHBURTON COUNTY RACING CLUB.
At a meeting of the committee, oi the Ashburton Comity Racing Club, on Saturday evening, a fetter dated October 19th was read from Sir George Clifford, in which lie congratulated members on the formation of a racing club which should command support throughout the district, and staged that be had written to the Colonial Secretary advising him of the institution of the club, recommending the issue of two permits for the use of the tpulisator for this season, and reminding him that three permits were allotted to Ashburton by the Conference, and that the full number will be necessary next season, when the new club would be able to hold their spring meeting. Letters were read from Messrs Doherty, E. Gates, and J. M. Hampton, tendering their resignations as members of the committee. It was considered that the resignations must have been sent in under a misapprehension, and it was decided to refer them back for reconsideration. Mr W. B. Denshire was elected a member of the committee in place of Mr P. H. Cox. There were three applications for the position of secretary, and Air C. H. Dowdintr, who was secretary of the Ashburton Racing Club, was elected.
D. Munn, in charge of Mr G. P. Donnely's horses Douglas and Oingo, arrived from the North Island on Saturday. Tirant d'Eau was knded from the Elingamite yesterday from the north.
