Tuesday, October 15. (Before H. S. Wardell, Esq., S.M., A. Parßons, A. Todd, and E. R. Good, E-qs,, J.P.'s.) Alleged Assault. —J. Fletcher, for whom Mr McUonuell appeared, was charged by O. Hosegood with having assaulted him. Defendant called at complainant's house to sco his (defendant's) wife, who was complainant's step daughter. Owing to allegations and threats made complainant stood at the door between Mrs Fletcher aud her husband, and the latter resented it by grabbing Hosegood by the chin and collar. Complainant then struck defendant and tried to get hold of his hair, bub his head was bald, and they rolled on the ground for some time till defendaut got up and drove away. Complainant added that Mrs Fletcher had obtained a three weeks' holiday from her husband, also that he had threatened her, and Hosegood had to act as guard and bar the doors and took the tomahawk away when defendant was expected. The defence was that Hoßegood had refused to allow Fletcher to talk to his wife and that the latter had serious allegations against her, and tbat Hosegood pushed defendant and his children off his land and assaulted the former. Information dismissed, defendant's counsel allowed his fee. Civil Case.—J. Barclay (Mr Helmore) v Sefton Dairy Company. Tois was an application to attach a debt, one by the Company to Mrs McCaw against whom plaintiff held judgment for £6 10s 101. The Company paid £2 7s 61 due to Mrs McCaw into Court, and the action thereby ceased.
