Buchanan 2 fish, 121b ; J. Neiison 1 fish, 2£lb ; W. J. Alps 4 fish, 13lb ; W. Bowden 4 fish ; — Shaw jun. 5 fish. From the Waimakariri—E. Fantham 3 fish, 121b; — Haig 2 fish. All the snow rivers are in flood. The Waimakariri was in good condition for fiihing, but is bad again as the fresh is now on. The northern branch of this river, however, running through Kaiapoi, is not affected by the snow, and there is plenty of good angliDg to be had there. The Selwyn is clear, and anglers have a good chance of making some large catches from it. On Monday morning Mr E. Fantham caught a 141b fish a: the mouth of the main drain near Kaiapoi; Mr M. Lynskev at the same time took out a 61b trout. The larger fish was a very lengthy one, and apparently old. On Monday night the river bank at Kaiapoi was pretty well lined with anglers, who all had fair sport in taking average-sized fish. Several fishermen have lately tried the Waimakariri at and above the Gorge bridge, but with poor success, as the water is yet a good deal discoloured from melting snow and inland rains. Fish inf this river are plentiful and very large. The Porter and Broken rivers have been tried by visitors, and some very mes fish obtained below Castle Hill. These hill rivers will at any time now give good sport.

The Upper Selwyn is not attracting as many anglers as usual, nor are the fish taken of a very large size. A local angler one day made tha nice bag of twenty-four fish, weight over 18lb, but others are obliged occasionally to be content with a light creel, no doubt owing to the nearly constant winds.
