GRADING OF FROZEN MUTTON.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
DUNEDIN, October 15. The Palmorston Agricultural and Pastoral Association adopted a resolution :— " That the Government, through the Minister of Lands, be requested to pass a Bill at once, enacting that all frozen mutton before shipment be branded on each quarter with ink or dye indelibly, alter the fashion followed by butchers who slaughter for those of the Jewish persuasion—That the brand indicate by registered alphabetical letters (1) whether the carcase be wether, maiden ewe, ewe or lamb; (2) whether heavy, medium or light weight; (3) at what works slaughtered and branded; (4) the grower's name or station, or registered mark; (5) whether of super, good, medium, or inferior quality. That the head butcher, or other suitable person, at each freezing works be sworn in by the Government as grader at such works, making such grader liable to imprisonment for palpable laches in grading, and that the grading fee be say ,d pec sheep."
