LAWN TENNIS.
The final round for the Canterbury Club's Champion singles, in connection with the Canterbury Tennis Club, was played yesterday, the men who were left in the final round being Mr R. D. Harman and Mr P. Marshall. There was a very good attendance, though the strong wind made thing 3 very unpleasant for both players and spectators. The match, decided on the most wins out of five sets, was won by Mr Harman—(6—3) (2—6) (6—o) (6—3). Both men gave a fine exhibition of the game. Marshall's clean driving was very good indeed, but Harman's play, though not so pretty, waa too steady for hia opponent. He made a continued attack on Marshall's back-hand, running up to the net after the stroke and volleying to the other side of the court. The first set was won by Harman rather easily, but in the next" Marshall turned the tables, winning the set with four games to spare. The third was won by Harman easily, Marshall not gaining a game. The fourth was, perhaps, the best contested of all, and at one time, when the games were three all, it seemed as if the match would be carried to the fifth set. Harman, however, eventually won by three games. Marshall's driving throughout was much admired, while, on the other hand, Harmin's placing, and, perhaps, hia volleying, were superior.
