"SEARCHLIGHTS."

TO THE EDITOR Of THE PRESS. Slß,—l notice tbat my letter which you were good enough to publish yesterday got accidentally somewhat mangled in passing through the Press. I regret; this, a3 my object in writing was to convoy an opinion, which, I believe, to be sharea by a large majority of your readers, namely, that the coarseness and personality of the "Searchlight " column ought to cease. I submit that the brutil style so often adopted by "The Bohemian" ia not in accordance with tbe traditions of yaur paper. If I remembar rightly the Vkess has always prided itself on the high character of its contributions. Two or three attempts were made iv Christchurch to establish journals on similar lines to the " Search Light" column, but the result was always a dismal failure. The number of people who could feel amused at that bathroom joke of " The Bohemian " would be small indeed, as compared to the thousands who would regret to see such an unmanly incident inserted in yonr columns. If " The Bohemian " would in future avoid such iudecenoies, and at the same time steer clear of petty spites ids name would be less detested. —Yours, _c, A. MtTLBEADV.
