CHURCH MEETING.

A public meeting was held in the Courthouse on Wednesday evening last, for the purpose of taking steps for th.; eivccion of I a Protestant Church at Charleston. Mr Thomas was voted to the chair, audi , explained the object for which the meeting was called. The Rev. Mr White then rose and made i a few appropriate remarks as to riie sity which now exists for a place of public! worship in Charleston. It was then resolved that steps should 1 be immediately taken for the objects proposed, and that the proposed building should be called the Evangelical Union Church. A permanent Committee of three, consisting of Mr White. Mr M'Farland, aud Mr Bees werejhpn elected, aud a working committee of Messrs Jones~(warderi), Yates, M'Kear, Legatt,', Kelly, Parker, (.'rate, Renton, Christenson, Thomas, Chambers, Cameron, Handyside, Bruce, and Mitchell. At a committee meeting, held on Thursday evening in the same place, it was resolved that plans of a church, 25 feet by 40 feet, be obtained; that the various gentlemen comprising the committee canvass the whole district for subscriptions, and that a suitable site be obtained for the baiiding. j The members of the committee seemed' very confident as to the results of their efforts, and if the same energy be infused into all their proceedings as have characterised the start, there is no doubt of their success.
