Five hundred children were the guests of Kopeopeo businessmen at a Christmas party on Wednesday evening. Father Christmas distributed presents from a tree and there were games and refreshments. Holiday Mails It has been decided to despatch mails' from Whakatane to the main offices at 7 a.m. on the Tuesdays, December 26 and January 2. The street receivers will be cleared at 6 a.m. on these days.
Band Activity Whakatane St. Andrew’s Highland Pipe Band will play in the streets of Whakatane tonight and will be travelling to Mt. Maunganui on Boxing Day to assist other pipe bands in providing the music for the girls’ marching display and competitions. Last Indoor Bowls. The Legion of Frontiersmen and Druids Lodge comblined to hold a “progressive” bowling tournament in the Winter Show Buildings on Monday evening to mark the windup of the bowling season for this year. The winners were (skip) J. D. Rivett, B. Mole, Miss H. Newman. Mrs H. Wyatt.

Motor Cycle Racing High standard of riding and fast times are expected when the beach meeting of the season is held at Ohope on Boxing Day. A number of visiting riders, including Bill Grey (Rotorua, Norton), W. H. Holmes (Mangakino, Norton twin), A. Kerr (Rotorua, Vincent), and some Wellington men are expected. Local riders will include R. Woods (A.J.S.), J. Flavell (Velocette), G. Haeusler (Velocette), T. Woods (Velocette), H. Lowe (Levis), C. Truman (Ariel), J. Sampson (A.J.S.), T. Martin (Velocette), and other Edgecumbe riders. A possible late entry will be Jackson of Te Kaha.
