MANAWAHE FORMS PONY CLUB BRANCH
Another vei'y promising branch of the District Pony Club was formed in the Manawahe district recently and their first rally was held at the Manawahe hall on December 9. It was well attended and instruction on the school work was given by Mr Blomfield. A strong committee has been formed with Mr Morice Snr., president, Mr Goldsmith, vice-president, and Mrs Hopkins secretary. The holding of the Whakatane Club’s first big,, trek at Manawahe ought to give this new branch a good start. Arrangements are now well under way and a muster of approximately 90 members will be in camp there. The use of the hall has been obtained and a working bee has been arranged to erect the marquees and lay out the camp. Mr Beil, of Whakatane, will attend to the catering and a supply' of straw for palliasses filling and hay for the ponies has been procured and will be delivered and stacked ready for use beforehand. A -group of riders from Tauranga and Te Puke are taking part, 27 from the former and 35 from Te Puke. They will truck their ponies to Awakaponga where they will join up with our local riders and have lunch before starting on the trek up the hill. All that is needed to make this effort a success is fine weather. Given this the camp ought to be a milestone in the history of the Pony Club. Points Cup Rally The inter-club points cup rally was held at Matata this year and White Pine once more carried the honours of the day gaining 634 points with Whakatane in second place and Edgecumbe third.
