Traffic And Weeds In County
The traffic and noxious weeds inspector, Mr A. Carling, reported as follows to the Whakatane County Council on Monday:—
Dog Registration: Fifty-eight registered during this period. Total fees paid intc office £729 13s. The agent at Ruatahuna had not completed the dog registration in that district when I that district on November 23. The registration was {Well under way and should be 'completed now. This will complete the dog registration for the Whole County * bringing the total registration of 2,850, same as the previous year.
Drivers’ Licences: Eighteen issued. 'V Tests'Conducted and, Extensions Made: Twelve car and light trade motor; five road machines; four heavy trade motor; two motor cycle. Offence Notices: No. 467, 468 and 469. Copies of notices and correspondence attached. Heavy Traffic Licences: The third quarter heavy traffic licence fees are coming in very well. A list of apy outstanding will be taken out on December 14. Road Classification Permits: The only known operators in the County who have not yet applied for permits to operate on thp County classified roads are C. Honeycombe and T. G. London. Offences and Fines: One driver was fined £2 and costs for exceeding fhe speed of 40 miles an hour with .a passenger service vehicle. Ranging and Impounding: Six horses and three head of cattle impounded from County roads and the State Highways during this period. Pound and sale fees collected, £3. Warning given to a Nukuhou settler. for permitting a horse' to wander at large on Anderson’s road. Four horses held' in the Galatea holding paddock advertised to be sold if not claimed and expenses paid. Noxious Weeds: I have made many inspections of properties in . most parts of the County and although I find most settlers attending to their noxious weeds I also found it necessary to serve requisition notices on some settlers in the Waimana, White Pine Bush and Te Teko districts. Noxious Weeds Control: The gangs operating in the Paroa-Awa-keri-Waimana river bed, Braemar, Matata and Pikowai areas are making very good progress. The Te Teko gang are behind schedule with their work, this is accounted for by lost time (sickness etc.). I will put the local gang into the Te Teko dis- , trict for one week to push the work ahead/ Maori Affairs Department: I have paid regular visits to Ruatoki district to inspect the area of ragwort which has been treated with Weedone 57. I am pleased to report that it is proving very satisfactory and t a remarkable improvement has been *made in this district. ' Altogether about 800 acres have been treated and spraying is still in progress. ;/ During this period I had half a -day off duty against my annual holiday.
