Edgecumbe Women's Institute
The December meeting of the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute took the form of a children’s Christmas party. The hall was decorated with Christmas posters and a Christmas tree was admired by parents and children. Mrs G. Irving and Mrs Lennon, were appointed to attend a drama meeting on January 9. A bank book was presented to Baby Yardley. It was decided to pack and send a parcel of food and soap to Europe. Mrs Wilson presented the president, secretary and treasurer with lovely bouquets. The choir sang a bracket of Christmas carols after which the afternoon was devoted to the children who did full justice to the entertainment provided. Competitions resulted:— Christmas gift, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Martin 2, Mrs Cameron 3; shortbread, Mrs Martin 1; sweet peas, Mrs Hawkins 1, Mrs Martin 2, Mrs Sim 3; peas, Mrs K. Tunnicliffe 1, Mrs Hawkins 2, Mrs Sim 3; best flower, Mrs Walsh 1. Mrs Irving 2, Mrs Davis 3.
