LOCAL ENTRANTS TAKE HONOURS AT NATIONAL GLAD. SHOW

MRS McCALLION LEADS THE LIST Whakatane entries predominated among winners at the Dominion Gladiolus Federation’s North Island national show held here on Wednesday. Grand championship winner was Mrs V. J. McCallion with “Mrs R. G. Errly.” She was runner-up with “Honeysuckle.” There were record entries, at least 1000 blooms being on display and judges commented on improved standard. Dry weather had resulted in early maturity. Decorative and commercial exhibits attracted particular attention. Judges in the Gladiolus section were Messrs A. W. Larsen (Wanganui) and A. E. Martin (Silverstream) and, in the decorative section, Messrs A. C. Martin and B. Johnston (Whakatane). Championships awarded were:— Grand Champion and Champion in open section: Mrs V. J.
