MR ERNEST BROWN WAS VISITOR TO WHAKATANE
Rt. Hon. Ernest and Mrs Brown met Whakatane Baptist people at afternoon tea, while on their way from Gisborne to Tauranga. Mr Brown who has been a prominent British statesman and war cabinet member, has just completed a tour of New Zealand, visiting various Baptist causes, and attending the annual Assembly in Christchurch. f
He was accompanied by Rev. F. P. Lanyon, secretary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, and Mrs Lanyon. Rev. R. T. Dodds, representing the Ministers’ Association, attended the gathering while Rev. T. R. Page, of Rotorua, welcomed the party. Mr Brown spoke encouragement to the New Zealand Baptist people, and told of some of his experiences while representing the New Zealanders at the Amsterdam conference of the World Council of Churches.
Mrs Brown brought a greeting from the British Baptist women. They have just completed a 10 weeks tour of New Zealand, having come from Canada, and the U.S.A. On Tuesday evening they spoke their final message of the tour to a full house in the Tauranga Town Hall.
They left by boat from Auckland for Australia on Friday evening, having been guests of the New Zealand Government, and will conduct a similar tour throughout Australia.
