INTER-SCHOOL SPORTS HELD AT MATATA
SEVEN SCHOOLS TAKE PART
Favoured with ideal weather, the annual inter-school sports organised by the Matata Maori School Committee and staff were highly successful; seven schools took part. In conjunction, with the sports, the Whakatane Pony Club held its district rally, and the Dredge Cup, for the best turned-out horse and rider, boy or girl, was won by John Howard, of White Pine. Interest was shown in the Maori Action Song and marching contests. At the conclusion of the programme, Mr B. Magee, chairman of the School Committee, thanked the judges and all other helpers ior their valued assistance, and presented trophies to the winners of the principal events. Mr J. Parkinson’s trophy for the boy winning the most points in the Banner Events was won by Edward Perenara of the Matata Convent with 15 points; followed by P. Goodfellow of Otakiri witn ten points.
