Recital By Overseas Artists In Whakatane

The Whakatane C.A.S. Committee has secured the services of three jmung artists, all recent arrivals in New Zealand from overseas. They will give a recital in the High School on Wednesday, November 22.

The quality of their musicianship can be guaranteed, and this should prove a most attractive combination to the many music lovers who prefer some variety to listening to a single instrument for a whole evening. It will certainly not fall short of the high standard associated with the name “C.A.S.” Samuel Artis is a violinist who comes with the highest recommendations. The fact that he was a first violin with the London Philharmonic Orchestra speaks for itself, and he has given recitals as solo artist in England, including engagements for the British Arts Council and the 8.8. C. Since his arrival in New Zealand he has played as guest artist with the Auckland Little Symphony Orchestra, and later is to play with the National Symphony Orchestra.' With him is associated Betty Pierson, a pianist of distinction, who has played recitals on her own. She, too, has fulfilled engagements for the 8.8. C. The third member of the trio is •the Dunedin mezzo-soprano, Honor McKellar, recently heard from Auckland and other main stations of the National Broadcasting Service in a series of recitals. Miss McKellar’s singing has earned high praise at concerts she has given in Wellington and Dunedin since her return from her period of training in England under an Associated Board Scholarship. The fine quality of her voice will delight all those who enjoy vocal music.
