DECISION SOON ON WAR MEMORIAL SCHEME
A decision with regard to the Whakatane War Memorial Scheme will be available soon. This information is contained in a telegram received by the chairman of the Community Centre Committee, Mr H. G. Warren, from Hon W. Sullivan. Mr Warren telegraphed Mr Sullivan to the effect that the scheme was at a standstill. He asked Mr Sullivan to ascertain if the scheme was approved and if money donated by the Winter Show Association would be subject to subsidy. This was Mr Sullivan’s reply:— “I am advised by the Minister of Internal Affairs that he hopes to have a decision with regard to your War Memorial Community Centre proposal in the near future. You may be assured I will let you have advice as soon as definite information is received. “Concerning your enquiry relative to the subsidy on the amount proposed by the Winter Show Society this matter is also receiving consideration.”
