Whakatane To Row For Trophy
The King’s Cup trophy, emblem of rowing supremacy in the Bay of Plenty, is to be rowed for at Tauranga in about a month’s time between the holders, Whakatane and the challengers, Tauranga. This will be the opening of the Tauranga club’s season and the two events are to be combined.
Whakatane has held the trophy for a number of years, and this challenge will be the first bid Tauranga has made for two years. The race should have been held at Whakatane but to save two trips early in the season the holders agreed to race at Tauranga. The next challenge for the cup will be raced at Whakatane, irrespective of who holds the trophy.
