Whakatane Beats Matata At Tennis

Last year’s winner of the Bay of Plenty C grade tennis competition, St. George’s (Whakatane) defeated Matata by 11 games* to five when the C grade competition opened at Whakatane on Saturday. Matata had youth in their favour and the younger players kept the more experienced Whakatane opponents moving about the courts but in the end it was experience that told. The other tennis fixture scheduled for Whakatane was a B grade match between Whakatane and Taneatua. The Taneatua team was unable to travel and the fixture was postponed until next Sunday.
