Print Competition The recently-formed Whakatane Camera Club will hold a print competition next Monday. At the same meeting, Mr W. Kirk will talk on photographic copyright. Excellent Growth Excellent growth of pastures throughout Eastern Bay of Plenty is resulting from alternating rain and sunshine. At Nukuhou, ensilage is already being made. Athletic Trophy A trophy for the most improved Maori member will be donated this season by the Whakatane Amateur Athletic Cycling Club. This is intended as a means of encouraging Maori athletes. Appeals To Be Heard Appeals against the Bay of Plenty Licensing Committee’s granting of a wholesaler’s licence at Whakatane will be heard by the Licensing Control Commission at Hamilton next Friday. Thornton Red Cross The Thornton Red Cross Sub-Cen-tre held a sewing , and cutting out afternoon on Tuesday. There was a good attendance. It was decided to hold a garden party at Mrs Robb’s residence on November 30 to raise funds for general purposes. A letter was received from the new settlers’ camp congratulating the Thornton Sub-Centre on their good effort for clothing.
500 Evening Mr Rutherford and Mesdames Rutherford, Comiskey and Cornes won the Whakatane Druids Flag 500 card evening held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening. The booby prizes went to Mr A. White and Mesdames L. Brown, A. Guptill and Creeke. A competition held was won by Mrs Sloane. A vote was taken from those present and it was decided to play flag 500 again next Tuesday evening.
