Wedding

RANBY—KENYON

A pretty wedding took place in St John’s Methodist Church, Whakatane, on September 9 between Gwenneth Frances, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. G. Kenyon, King Street, Whakatane, and Colin Bert, only son of Mr and Mrs C. R. Ranby, King Street, Whakatane. Rev. Wm. C. Jenkin officiated and Miss R. Garaway was organist The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of embossed satin and lace. The back and front yokes were of lace cut on scalloped lines and were edged with a narrow net pleating and off set with small mother-of-pearl flowers. The full sleeves were gathered on to a tight lace band just above the wrist, pointing over the fingers and the lace was offset with small covered buttons. The tight-fitting bodice was long waisted with small covered buttons down the back and was scalloped on to a slightly gored skirt which fell to a very full train, having an unusual effect of five circular scalloped insets of lace around the hemline which were edged with narrow, net pleating and trimmed with small mother-of-pearl flowers. Her full-length embroidered veil was held in place with a coronet of real flowers of hyacinths and orchids. She carried a bouquet of sweet peas, hyacinths, cyclamens, cream daffodils and orchids.

The bridesmaids were Misses Shirley and Yvonne Kenyon (sisters of the bride) and Ora Ranby (sister of the bridegroom). They were frocked alike in orchid-pink taffeta frocks, cut on similar lines to that of the bride’s and had scalloped insets of net in the yokes, short puffed sleeves and silk mittens. They carried posies of cyclamen, sweet peas and hyacinths with matching coronets. In attendance to the bridegroom were Messrs W. Bowering (best man), R. Ranby and B. Powley. During the signing of the register Mrs Te Hira Fergusson sang “Thanks Be To God.”

The reception was held in the Masonic Hall where 140 guests were received by the bride and bridegroom’s parents. Mrs Kenyon wore a blue cheneille frock with grey accessories and a shoulder spray of orchids, while Mrs Ranby chose a frock of midnight blue with wine accessories and a shoulder spray of hellabore and grape hyacinths. The couple were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and among the many telegrams was a cable from the bridegroom’s grandmother and aunt in Canada. The bride travelled in a twotone frock of pink and wine, with wine accessories, a grey coat and a shoulder spray of orchids. Mr and Mrs Ranby will make their home in Papatoetoe.
