Good Enquiry For All Classes At Waimana Sale
A very large offering of all classes of Jersey description cattle and a light penning of fat sheep came forward at Messrs Dalgety and Co’s Waimana stock sale on Wednesday Competition for all classes was keen, there being a good enquiry for close to profit dairy cows and heifers while young Jersey cows and empty heifers were in demand. Service bulls sold freely, one particularly good 2-year Jersey bull realising £36. The entry of fat sheep sold at full late rates.
We quote:— Sheep: Medium fat wethers, shorn, £3 3s to £3 ss; light fat ewes, shorn, to 29s 6d; fat shorn W/F hoggets to £3 2s. Cattle: Good fat Jersey cows, £l7 5s to £lB 2s 6d; medium fat Jersey cows, £l3 10s to £ls 10s; lighter fat Jersey cows and heifers, £lO 10s to £l3 10s; young paddock cows, £8 10s to £9 15s; young empty cows and heifers, £7 5s to £8 7s 6d; light to medium boner cows, £5 10s to £6 15s; small 2-year Jersey heifers, £6 to £6 10s; Hereford cows with calves at foot to £l4; best 2-year service bulls, £l9 to £36; yearling Ayrshire bulls, £9 to £lO.
Dairies: Best calved Jersey heifers, £l4 to £ls; best springing Jersey heifers, £l7 to £l9 10s; more backward heifers, £l2 to £l3 10s; best sound cows to calve, £ls to £2O.
