Women Life Savers Will Defend Titles
A women’s team of six members is to be sent by the Whakatane Surf Life Saving Club to Christchurch for the New Zealand Surf Championships next February to defend the / three titles won last year. This was stated at the annual meeting of the club. It is also hoped to send two men’s teams to the championships. Reviewing the past season in his annual report, the president, Dr E. G. Hefford, said that the club had experienced its most successful year. The women’s team whijch travelled to the national championships at Wellington had won three titles and gained one second. The same team had won further events at Waihi and Auckland later in the season, together with the Bay of Plenty women’s cup. The club now had a strong and active membership, Dr Hefford continued, but he said that more .attention would have to be paid to junior members. This season there would be a concentrated drive to train all young members.

Wilson and F. Windley.
