Among the schemes which the New Zealand Institute for the Blind hopes to finance from its appeal next year is a model kitchen for blind housewives. A kitchen, specially designed for blind women, will be built and blind women trained in it. When they have completed their course of several weeks they will go back to their own kitchens—which will be altered, where possible, to provide exact replicas of the model.
Woman’s Fortunate Escape A woman was saved from serious injury by a Palmerston North police constable. The 5.50 Aucklandbound express was pulling out from the Palmerston North station and had already gained considerable momentum when Constable B. Arnold noticed a woman rush from the station building, throw her bag on to the carriage platform and attempt to board the moving train. She lost her footing' however, and was in the act of slipping underneath the carriage when Constable Arnold rushed forward and dragged her to safety.
